Better Digestion With A2 Milk

Cow’s milk consists of two main types of protein: Casein and whey. Casein makes up about 80% of the protein structure. There are several different types of casein, A1 and A2 beta-casein being the two most common.

The body digests these two different, and A1 has been claimed to be more difficult to digest, leading to potentially more digestive discomfort. Most milk contains both types of casein.

A2 milk is great because, like human breast milk or goat milk, it lacks A1 beta-casein protein and instead has mostly the A2 protein, which comes from specially selected cows that exclusively produce the A2 beta-casein protein.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORMAL MILK AND A2 MILK?

The designation A2 or A1 refer to the particular casein as part of the protein content in the milk. The difference between the two variants lies in the deviation of the beta casein. Initially, all cows have been A2 cows but in the course of their evolution, a point mutation has occured among the cattle, the so – called A1 variation.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT A2 MILK?

The A2 milk is an unaltered variation of the original and natural whole milk. Various studies and examinations have shown that the percentage of pure A2 cows today is only 30%. The so-called A2 milk is more compatible for people with lactose intolerance because the digestion of A1 milk causes a higher amount of BCM-7 release than the A2 variation.

Originally, all cows were A2 cows. Over time, as a result of mutation, dairy cows started to produce A1 -casein. Research shows that only 30% of cows are pure A2 today.

Only A2 milk from organic agriculture is used for Holle A2 organic Infant Formulas which comes from specially selected cows that naturally produce only the A2 protein type and no A1. The A2 cows are specifically selected with a strict DNA test.
